Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced Friday to 50 months in federal prison after being convicted of transporting individuals for prostitution, according to Reuters. The ruling caps a high-profile case that exposed the music mogul to weeks of testimony about his private life and business empire.
Combs, 55, was found guilty in July on two counts of arranging interstate travel for prostitution, The Associated Press reported. Jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. He has been in custody since September 2024 and will receive credit for time served.
Judge Arun Subramanian also imposed five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine, CBS News reported. Prosecutors had urged a sentence of more than 11 years, citing coercion and abuse, while defense attorneys asked for just 14 months.
“The crimes were serious, and the sentence must reflect that,” Subramanian said, according to The Washington Post. He added that the government’s recommendation went too far but the defense proposal understated the gravity of the offenses.
Several victims spoke in court, including singer Cassie Ventura, who described years of exploitation, the AP reported. Combs addressed the court before sentencing, apologizing and calling his actions “disgusting, shameful and sick,” according to AP coverage.
The conviction marks a steep fall for Combs, who built a global brand through Bad Boy Records, fashion ventures and liquor partnerships. The Washington Post noted the case has drawn comparisons to other high-profile prosecutions in the entertainment industry.
With credit for time served, Combs is expected to serve a shorter term than the 50-month sentence, though the exact calculation has not been publicly detailed, the AP reported. His attorneys have not said whether they plan to appeal.
