TEXAS CITY — Former Texas City Commissioner Dee Ann Haney has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a Galveston County judge revoked her probation in connection with a 2017 crash that killed a father and son.

According to KTRK Houston, the ruling came Friday following two days of testimony. Judge Jeth Jones told Haney that she had already been given a second chance when a jury convicted her last year but recommended probation instead of jail time.

“I’m not giving you a third,” Jones reportedly told Haney during sentencing. “You don’t seem to have ever taken this seriously.”

Haney was convicted in February 2024 of criminally negligent homicide in the deaths of 58-year-old Hong Phuc Le and 33-year-old Duoc Van Le. Both men were killed in 2017 when Haney struck them with her vehicle along Interstate 45.

Court documents show Haney failed to complete the terms of her probation, which included 600 hours of community service. Prosecutors also cited her September 2024 arrest for driving while intoxicated as further grounds for revocation.

“She wasn’t successful at completing the technical obligations of her probation,” Galveston County Chief Assistant Criminal District Attorney Kacey Launius told KTRK. “Completing community service hours is such an easy thing to do and she simply was not doing that.”

Haney’s probation was revoked, and she was ordered to serve the full 10-year sentence originally assessed by the jury.
