GALVESTON — About noon on Sunday, October 5, a 21-year-old man went missing in the Gulf while swimming with his family near the 7300 block of Seawall Boulevard, according to the Galveston Beach Patrol.
A coordinated search effort involving the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Police Department, Galveston EMS, and the U.S. Coast Guard was launched immediately.
Despite an extensive two-hour search by water, air, and land, rescuers were unable to locate the swimmer.
Members of Jesse Tree and the Survivor Support Network, a non-profit organization that provides assistance to families of missing swimmers, are currently offering support to the man’s family.
Beach Patrol officials remind visitors to always swim near a lifeguard, stay within their swimming abilities, and check beach flag conditions before entering the water.
Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
