LEAGUE CITY — BISSELL Pet Foundation is once again helping pets find homes with its nationwide “Empty the Shelters” event, running October 1 through 15, according to Julie Hoover, Coordinator at the League City Animal Care.
The foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, has partnered with 300 shelters in 38 states to reduce adoption fees to $70 or less. League City Animal Care is among the participating shelters and will be offering free adoptions during the event.
Shelters across the country are struggling with overcrowding and high intake numbers, making this event a timely opportunity to save lives. Since its launch in 2016, “Empty the Shelters” has helped more than 355,000 pets find homes nationwide.
League City Animal Care’s Adoption Center is located at 755 West Walker Street in League City. Hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The center is closed Monday and Wednesday.
According to League City’s website, the BISSELL Pet Foundation was founded in 2011 by Cathy Bissell. “Empty the Shelters” has become the nation’s largest funded adoption event and, for the first time this year, includes a partnership with MetLife Pet Insurance.
