GALVESTON – According to the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, the body of a 21-year-old man who went missing Sunday afternoon while swimming with his family in the Gulf was recovered Monday morning.
Shortly before 11 a.m., beachgoers called 911 after spotting a body floating near the 12600 block of FM 3005. The victim matched the description of the swimmer who disappeared near the 7300 block of Seawall Boulevard early Sunday afternoon.
Jesse Tree and the Survivor Support Network are providing assistance to the man’s family during this difficult time.
“Any loss of life at Galveston Island beaches is one too many,” said Austin Kirwin, Chief of Galveston Island Beach Patrol. “I want to thank the Galveston Police Department, Galveston Fire Department, Galveston EMS, and the U.S. Coast Guard who helped in search and rescue efforts this weekend. Our prayers are with the family of this young man as they work through this tragic situation.”
The Beach Patrol continues to advise others to refer to flag warnings, and be cautious of rip tides before swimming.
