SANTA FE – The Galveston County Health District says it is investigating possible water and septic contamination in a Santa Fe neighborhood following reports of health concerns from residents.

According to GCHD, health officials visited the area near 2511 FM 646 on Tuesday, along with city representatives, to speak with residents who reported foul odors, unexplained illnesses, and visible problems with septic systems.

GCHD says several septic tanks in the area were found with cracks and holes. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has also issued a boil water notice for homes connected to a private well system.

In a statement, Dr. Philip Keiser, GCHD’s CEO and Galveston County Local Health Authority, said, “We want the community to know we hear you, and we are actively investigating.”

GCHD says it is working with the City of Santa Fe and TCEQ to determine the extent of any contamination and ensure the safety of the area’s water supply.
