TEXAS CITY — Texas City is collecting new, unused blankets to help people experiencing homelessness, according to a city news release.
The blanket drive, organized by the Mayor’s Task Force on Homelessness, runs through Oct. 31. Donations can be dropped off at City Hall, 1801 Ninth Ave. N.; City Hall Annex, 928 Fifth Ave. N.; or Moore Memorial Public Library, 1701 Ninth Ave. N.
All collected blankets will be distributed during the city’s annual Navigation Day event in early November.
Navigation Day brings together regional agencies and service providers offering assistance such as hot showers, free barber and salon services, medical screenings, and referrals for housing, employment, and utility aid.
This year’s event will take place Thursday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nessler Center, 2010 Fifth Ave. N.
