A widespread outage in Amazon Web Services on Monday morning disrupted many online services and apps that rely on the company’s servers.
The problem began in AWS’s US-EAST-1 region, affecting services like DNS and load balancing. Users reported errors and slow performance across a variety of platforms. AWS said most services have been restored, though some regions are still seeing limits on new server instances, according to The Verge.
Reports say the outage affected a wide range of services. Social media platforms like Snapchat, Signal, Reddit, and Discord were impacted.
Gaming services, including Fortnite, Roblox, PUBG, and Rainbow Six Siege, also experienced disruptions.
Financial platforms such as Coinbase, Robinhood, Venmo, Chime, and PayPal were affected, as were streaming services including Amazon Prime Video, Twitch, Hulu, and Crunchyroll.
Productivity apps like Canva, Duolingo, Airtable, and Zapier were down, and smart devices including Amazon Alexa and Ring were also impacted. Retail services such as Shopify, the McDonald’s app, and Whatnot were disrupted as well, according to AP News and Chain Store Age.
Even AI platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Perplexity AI, and Anthropic’s Claude were temporarily affected.
While most services are coming back online, AWS said some regions may still experience slowdowns, and real-time updates are available on the company’s Service Health Dashboard and Downdetector.
