Early Morning Fire Damages La Marque Home

LA MARQUE — Firefighters from three departments responded to an early morning blaze that damaged a home in La Marque on Tuesday.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in the 2500 block of Grebb Street. According to the homeowner, flames started in the backyard and spread quickly. He told KGTX 7 he tried to extinguish the fire with a household extinguisher but was unable to contain it.

La Marque firefighters arrived within minutes, with mutual aid from the Santa Fe and Hitchcock fire departments. Crews worked for about 30 minutes to bring the flames under control.

Officials said one person sustained minor injuries, but no nearby homes or structures were affected.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the La Marque Fire Marshal’s Office.
