KEMAH — A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month in Kemah has been taken into custody in San Antonio, according to the Kemah Police Department.

Detectives identified the suspect as 40-year-old James Nathan Malo. Police say Malo was arrested without incident early Wednesday morning around 7:47 a.m. in the 8300 block of Perrin Beitel Road. He has been charged with murder and is being transported to the Galveston County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The arrest follows an October 12 shooting in the 400 block of Bay Avenue, where officers discovered two adults suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to UTMB Clear Lake Hospital for treatment. One of the victims, 30-year-old Richard Samora, later died from his injuries, while the second victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Malo was initially questioned and released the night of the incident due to inconclusive evidence. However, police say further investigation—including video footage and witness interviews—led to new findings that prompted the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office to issue a murder warrant.

Kemah Police credited their Criminal Investigations Division and assistance from the San Antonio Police Department for the successful apprehension.

“The diligent work of our detectives and cooperation between agencies made this arrest possible,” the department said in its release.

According to Kemah Police, Malo will face formal charges upon arrival in Galveston County.
