LA MARQUE – Police leadership has shifted to a longtime local officer with deep ties to the area. The City of La Marque has appointed Lt. Gilberto Rodriguez as interim chief of police, the city announced.

Rodriguez was born and raised in Galveston and is a Ball High School graduate. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Galveston College, where he completed the law enforcement academy before entering the profession.

He began his career with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office in the Corrections Division, later joining the La Marque Police Department in 2007 as a patrol officer.

The city highlighted his experience in community-oriented policing, noting that he served as one of the department’s original community policing officers under former Chief Randall Aragon. Rodriguez has also worked in a number of leadership and specialized positions, including supervising the Criminal Investigations Division and serving on the Special Response Team since its formation.

The city said his background reflects a commitment to public service in the same communities where he grew up and built his career.

Residents will have an opportunity to meet Rodriguez during a public event scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 1109-B Bayou Road.
