Savannah Memorial 5K Rescheduled After Stormy Weekend

LEAGUE CITY — The fifth annual Savannah Memorial 5K, originally scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26 at Hometown Heroes Park, has been postponed due to severe weather and unsafe park conditions, organizers said.

City officials closed portions of the park after heavy rain left the grounds too wet and muddy, raising concerns about potential damage to the track and the risk of injuries.

The event has been rescheduled for Sunday, Nov. 9, and will return to its earlier location at Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway in Webster — the site where the walk was hosted its first three years.

Start times and event plans will remain the same.

The annual 5K honors the life of Savannah Kinchen, a Bay Area wife and mother who was killed by her husband in 2020, and raises funds for Bay Area Turning Point, a nonprofit supporting survivors of domestic violence.

If you registered for the original event, it is still good for the new planned date.

Registration is available at savannahmemorial5k.org.
