GALVESTON — The West Brook Bruins proved too strong for the Ball High Tornadoes on Friday night, claiming a 37–18 district victory in Galveston to improve their record to 6–3 on the season.
West Brook struck early and never trailed, building momentum through a mix of powerful rushing and efficient passing. The Bruins led 9–6 after the first quarter, then widened the gap with 14 unanswered points before halftime. Ball fought back with a pair of touchdowns in the second half, but West Brook’s balanced offense kept the Tornadoes at bay.
Senior running back Willie Clark led the charge for the Bruins, rushing for 173 yards on 19 carries and adding a touchdown. Junior quarterback T. Anderson went 6-of-9 for 95 yards and two passing touchdowns while also contributing 31 rushing yards. Sophomore wideout Brandon Jackson made the most of his two receptions—both went for scores, totaling 62 yards.
For Ball, senior Torin Petteway rushed 21 times for 73 yards and a touchdown, while senior receiver Juwaan Woodbury caught five passes for 59 yards and a score. Despite managing over 150 rushing yards and 100 passing yards, the Tornadoes couldn’t match West Brook’s offensive rhythm.
The Bruins totaled 320 yards of offense—225 rushing and 95 passing—while Ball finished with 272 total yards. West Brook’s defense also held firm in key moments, stopping multiple Tornado drives deep in Bruins territory.
West Brook now turns its focus to a home matchup against Barbers Hill on Friday, November 7. The Eagles enter the contest at 6–3 after a 48–0 win over Ball the previous week. Meanwhile, the Tornadoes (2–7) will travel to Lufkin to take on the Panthers, who boast a 6–3 record following a 31–16 win over Beaumont United.
As district play nears its close, both teams face pivotal games with playoff implications looming large.
