GALVESTON – CenterPoint Energy will begin the next phase of its system resiliency upgrades in the Galveston area this month, the company announced in a statement.

The work is part of CenterPoint’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the coastal electric grid and improve reliability during severe weather. According to the utility, the project will include replacing wooden poles with stronger, storm-resilient poles and installing automated self-healing devices designed to reduce the impact of outages.

Crews are scheduled to work Monday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Temporary lane closures and planned outages are expected as part of the project. CenterPoint said it will notify affected customers in advance through postcards, door hangers, calls, texts, or emails.

When complete, company officials said the upgrades will enhance system reliability and allow power to be restored more quickly after storms.
