DICKINSON — GridStor, a developer and operator of large-scale battery energy storage systems, has officially dedicated its new Hidden Lakes Reliability Project in Texas, the company announced Tuesday.
According to a statement from GridStor, the 220-megawatt, 440-megawatt-hour facility is now operational and capable of providing enough power to serve approximately 140,000 average Texas households during peak demand hours.
“The Hidden Lakes Reliability Project is helping meet Texas’ historic economic expansion and fast-growing demand for electricity from cities, data centers, and other large industrial customers,” said Chris Taylor, CEO of GridStor. “Our battery storage facility will help stabilize the power grid and contribute daily to meeting the hours of greatest demand, which keeps overall costs to customers lower.”

The dedication ceremony, held November 4, featured remarks and a ribbon-cutting led by Congressman Randy Weber of Texas’s 14th Congressional District, Thomas J. Gleeson, Chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas, and State Rep. Terri Leo-Wilson of the 23rd District.
GridStor stated that the Hidden Lakes project will generate tens of millions of dollars in sales, use, and property tax revenue for Galveston County and Dickinson Independent School District. The facility will also bolster the resilience of the Texas electric grid through participation in the ERCOT market. About 100 skilled tradespeople and apprentices were employed during its construction.
The Hidden Lakes project marks GridStor’s first operating facility in Texas. Backed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management, the company manages a pipeline of more than 3 gigawatts of battery storage projects under development or construction across the western and central United States.
