GALVESTON — A police pursuit that began in Galveston ended safely in Houston on Thursday after the suspect’s vehicle ran out of gas, authorities said.

According to Kurt Koopmann of GPD, officers attempted to make a traffic stop around noon in the 7400 block of Jones Road. The driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit.

Once the chase moved off Galveston Island, GPD units discontinued their pursuit and the Texas DPS took the lead. The pursuit came to an end in Houston without the use of force and with no reported injuries.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old Jasmere Washington, was taken into custody. Police said Washington was already facing charges for theft and probation violations and will now face an additional felony charge of evading arrest.
