TEXAS CITY — A man wounded in an October shooting in Texas City has been publicly identified as Michael Martinez after earlier reports incorrectly stated the victim was a woman. Martinez survived a gunshot wound to the stomach following surgery, and his family is urging media outlets and the public to correct the record, saying the attack was premeditated and not the result of a routine domestic dispute.
The shooting occurred around 2:00 a.m. on October 12, at The Crossings at 31st Street Apartments on 31st Street in Texas City. Bullets were fired into Martinez’s apartment, striking him inside his residence, according to supporting statements and documentation from the family.
Martinez’s mother, Larissa Martinez, said the male suspect, 38-year-old Alexis Delarosa, had been stalking Michael and the mother of his children for months prior to the shooting. She claims Delarosa placed a tracking device on a vehicle and attempted a knife attack before ultimately opening fire.
“My son was the victim of a targeted attack, not a domestic disturbance,” she said in a public statement.
After weeks of searching, investigators received a tip that Delarosa was staying at a home in Tyler County. On November 12, a coordinated operation involving the U.S. Marshals Service, Office of Inspector General, Texas DPS, Tyler County Sheriff’s Office, and the District Attorney’s Office led to his arrest. He remains in custody in Tyler County awaiting transfer to Galveston County.
Delarosa is charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Martinez continues to recover from his injuries.
