Hitchcock Mayor Says City Finances Are Stable Amid Regional Concerns

HITCHCOCK — Mayor Chris Armacost is reassuring residents that the City of Hitchcock is on solid financial footing, following questions prompted by financial issues in neighboring communities.

In a statement released Saturday morning, Armacost said the city maintains a healthy fund balance and credited city staff, elected officials, and the Economic Development Corporation for their continued work on behalf of residents. He noted that the EDC is actively recruiting new businesses to expand services and create jobs in Hitchcock.

Armacost also addressed confusion about the relationship between city government and the school district, emphasizing that the two operate independently. “City government and the school district are two separate entities and what happens within one does not affect the other,” he said.

The mayor added that the city remains committed to transparency, pointing residents to publicly available budgets, audits, utility rate studies, and department information on the City of Hitchcock website.

The full list of financial documents and reports can be accessed through the city’s online transparency portal.
