Texas City Museum to Host Adaptive Recreation Event

TEXAS CITY – The museum will host an adaptive recreation event Saturday, offering crafts, refreshments, model trains, and access to its annual Quilt Exhibition for guests of all abilities.

According to a press release, the event is scheduled for Nov. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. and is designed to be inclusive for visitors with disabilities, according to Recreation & Tourism Director Nicole Miller.

The museum features exhibits on the 1947 Texas City Disaster, early Texas City history, the First Aero Squadron, musician Charles Brown, and industrial development in the region. Additional displays include a children’s discovery room, local school memorabilia, and a Dahlgren cannon from the U.S.S. Westfield.

The museum’s second floor will be open during the event, showcasing the facility’s large-scale model train displays.

The annual Quilt Exhibition will also be available for viewing, with quilts ranging from traditional designs to pop-culture themes. Visitors can vote for their favorite pieces, with winners announced at the end of the month.

The museum is located at 409 6th Street N. Admission is free for the event, but registration is required. Details are available on the City of Texas City website.
