TEXAS CITY is set to ring in the holidays this weekend with its annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29, at 5 p.m. on the front lawn of City Hall.
Mayor Dedrick Johnson will join Santa Claus for the ceremonial lighting of the city’s Christmas tree and outdoor decorations. After the switch is flipped, families can take photos with Santa and enjoy hot chocolate, a candy bar and free goodie bags.
City officials say musical performances from local groups will continue through the evening, adding a soundtrack of classic Christmas favorites.
Jennifer Laird, the city’s communications director, said the celebration marks the beginning of a busy holiday season in Texas City and sets the tone for several upcoming events.
The tree lighting is free and open to the public. Details about additional holiday activities can be found on the city’s website.
