GALVESTON — A driver was killed late Tuesday night after a police pursuit that started in La Marque, ended in a crash on the Galveston Seawall, according to the La Marque Police Department.
Police say the incident began around 10:30 p.m. when La Marque officers spotted a vehicle traveling southbound on I-45 that had been confirmed as involved in a hit-and-run crash out of Harris County. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver reportedly refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit toward Galveston.
Capt. Tommy Maffei with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said the chase continued into the city and ended at cherry hill, where the suspect vehicle crashed. The driver died at the scene, on the east end of the island.
The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is handling the crash investigation. La Marque Police say an internal review will be conducted, as is standard procedure for all pursuits.
