Two More Hoax Bomb Threats Reported at League City Walmarts; Police Search for Caller

LEAGUE CITY — Police say two more hoax bomb threats were reported Monday evening at both Walmart locations in League City, marking the fifth such incident in the city in recent days.

Officer Jose Ortega said the threats came in at 6:50 p.m. and 6:58 p.m., targeting the Walmart at 1701 West FM 646 and the Neighborhood Walmart at 2625 West Main Street. Officers evacuated both stores and worked with bomb technicians to search the buildings. No explosive devices were found.

According to Ortega, the caller reached out directly to law enforcement this time — contacting Dickinson Police to report the FM 646 location, which falls under a Dickinson postal address, and calling League City Police to report the West Main Street store. Investigators determined both threats were hoaxes.

Detectives are actively working to identify the person responsible. Ortega said the department is still determining whether the latest calls are linked to several previous threats. “The only relation that we have is the similar type of explanation of what’s taking place,” he said. “We are still working to determine that this is the same suspect and not multiple suspects.”

League City has now handled five bomb threats, with other agencies in Galveston County responding to additional reports over the last two days.

If a suspect is identified, Ortega said detectives expect the case to involve multiple charges of making a terroristic threat. Those charges will be reviewed by the district attorney’s office once investigators complete their case.

Ortega offered a message to whoever is responsible: “We are very good at our job. Our detectives are working diligently to locate this individual and bring them to justice.”

He also asked the public to stay alert. “If you see something out of the ordinary, or you get a gut feeling that something’s wrong, don’t hesitate to call us so we can investigate.”
