BACLIFF – A man has been arrested following an investigation by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

According to a press release, detectives opened the case in November after receiving a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. On December 5, investigators executed a search warrant at a home in the 3000 block of Demrod Street in Bacliff.

During the search, detectives seized several electronic devices. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a forensic review of those devices revealed child exploitation material.

The suspect, identified as Arturo Manuel Perez, 34, was taken into custody and charged with Possession of Visual Material Depicting Sexual Assault. His bond was set at $40,000.

The investigation involved assistance from multiple agencies within the Houston Metro ICAC Task Force, including Homeland Security Investigations, Pearland Police Department, La Porte Police Department, Texas City Police Department, Dickinson Police Department, Hitchcock Police Department, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division. The Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit and Organized Crime Task Force also assisted.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this article stated the bond was set at $60,000, according to the GCSO press release, however jail records indicate the lowered amount is now $40,000. We’ve updated the article to reflect this accurately.
