GALVESTON – Police say a man wanted for nearly three decades on child sexual assault charges has been found and arrested in West Virginia.

According to the Galveston Police Department, detectives conducting a routine audit of active warrants in October uncovered new information in the case of Santos Calderon, who was wanted on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child dating back to 1998. Investigators identified an alias and a different date of birth that had previously allowed him to avoid detection.

Detectives re-interviewed associates and family members in the Galveston area, gathering information that helped confirm Calderon’s identity. Police then worked with the U.S. Department of State, Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Marshals Service to track him across the country.

Investigators determined Calderon had re-entered the United States illegally about 13 years ago and had been living in states including New York and West Virginia.

On November 12, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service, with help from local agencies in West Virginia, located and arrested Calderon.

Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli said he is grateful for the work of detectives and the federal partners who helped close the case.
