FRIENDSWOOD – The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation has awarded more than $20,000 in scholarships to 10 district educators as part of its Continuing Education Scholarship Program, now in its second year.
The program, launched in spring 2024 through an initial gift from Drs. Sara and Glenn Freedman, is designed to support Friendswood ISD employees pursuing advanced education and professional credentials. Scholarships may be used for bachelor’s or master’s degrees, alternative certification programs, or graduate-level certifications.
Foundation leaders say the initiative aims to strengthen the district by investing directly in the professional growth of its staff.

This fall’s recipients represent multiple campuses and disciplines across the district. Awardees include Courtney Adkins, Abigail Colbert, Shelby Craft, Carlee Hendershot, Amanda Lovern, Jenny Porter, Hannah Schmanske, Rosalie Starkey, Traci Stephens, and Andrew Turnbull.
The program has already drawn attention beyond the district. Earlier this year, the Texas Education Foundation Network recognized Friendswood ISD’s initiative with an award for innovation in educator support.
FISD Superintendent Thad J. Roher praised the effort, saying it is helping transform both professional opportunities for staff and the educational experience of students across the district.
The Education Foundation plans to continue expanding the scholarship program, noting strong community interest and ongoing demand from educators.
