SEABROOK — Holiday lights shimmered across the water Saturday night as the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its 64th annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade, a long-running seasonal tradition that drew decorated vessels of all shapes and sizes to the Seabrook waterfront.
The parade began at 7 p.m., featuring everything from small paddle boats to large yachts, each outfitted with festive lights and creative holiday displays. Spectators lined the shoreline to watch the illuminated boats glide by, transforming the waterway into a moving showcase of Christmas color and imagination.
Shari Sweeney, vice president of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, said she has been with the chamber for 31 years and has watched the event grow while still preserving its original spirit. The parade was first launched in 1961 by five local men and has since become a staple of the Clear Lake holiday season.
Sweeney said her favorite part of the event is the creativity of the boaters, noting that participants often design elaborate displays that reflect both holiday cheer and moments of shared history. She recalled one particularly memorable entry following the Sept. 11 attacks, when a boater recreated the New York City skyline using lights, complete with a firefighter figure hanging from one of the Twin Towers.
An awards ceremony recognizing standout entries from this year’s parade is scheduled for Sunday morning at 9:30, at the South Shore Harbour Resort, where winners will be announced in several categories.
