FRIENDSWOOD — The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) has awarded two 2025–2026 Legacy Grants to Friendswood High School, supporting innovative projects that expand hands-on learning opportunities for students.
Legacy Grants, funded by FEF, provide $7,500 or more for transformative initiatives that create long-term impact across campuses. This year’s grants focus on career readiness, workforce alignment, and experiential learning in both fine arts and STEM education.
One grant, Truss Us With Your Kids, equips the FHS Theatre program with a professional-grade truss system. Students in Theatre Production, Technical Theatre, and Fine Arts courses will gain experience with industry-standard lighting, rigging, and structural assembly. The system supports over 150 theatre students annually and benefits an additional 500 students across choir, band, and dance programs through enhanced performances and campus events. According to FEF, the project builds career-ready skills while strengthening collaboration, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
The second grant, Driving Innovation: VEX V5 Robotics Expansion, provides VEX V5 Robotics kits for the FHS Mustang STEM Lab. This initiative impacts approximately 350 students, giving them access to project-based learning that emphasizes problem-solving, programming, teamwork, and engineering design. Students will also have the opportunity to compete in local, regional, and national robotics competitions, while partnerships with industry and aerospace professionals enrich real-world learning experiences.

“This being my first year, it has been great seeing how the community supports FISD and its students,” said FHS Engineering/Robotics Instructor Mark Crenshaw. “I am looking forward to the implementation of the VEX Robotics platform in my robotics classes after Christmas break.”
Legacy Grants exceed the size and scope of FEF’s traditional Adopt-A-Grant program and are funded through the foundation’s Endowment Fund, supported by Century Club members and other donors committed to enhancing education in Friendswood ISD.
FEF also encourages community members to contribute to its 2025–2026 Adopt-A-Grant Campaign, open through March. Donations, large or small, help fund hands-on learning experiences across FISD campuses and ensure students have access to tools, resources, and opportunities that meet diverse educational needs.
