GALVESTON – A plane crash in Galveston Bay on December 22 claimed the lives of six people, including a young child, while leaving two women in stable condition, authorities and the Michou and Mau Foundation confirmed.
Julia Aracelis Cruz Vera, the mother of the child who perished, has been extubated and is reportedly stable at a Galveston hospital, according to an update from the Michou and Mau Foundation. Flight nurse Miriam de Jesús Rosas Mancilla, also onboard, is recovering well. The two were the only survivors of the crash.
The child, identified as Federico Efraín Ramírez Cruz, was en route to Shriners Children’s in Galveston for treatment when the plane went down, the hospital confirmed.
The aircraft, a Beech King Air 350i, belonged to the Mexican Navy and was operating on a medical support mission in partnership with the Michou and Mau Foundation. Officials say there were eight people onboard, including four Navy crew members and four civilians.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
