LA MARQUE — Police in La Marque say there was no shooting at the Walmart in the city earlier today, despite rumors that circulated online and prompted calls to authorities.

According to the La Marque Police Department, the incident involved a man who suffered a medical episode inside the store. During that episode, a firearm he was carrying fell to the ground. The man sustained minor injuries related to the medical issue.

Officers responded to the scene and secured the area while medical personnel evaluated the man. After he was cleared by medics, police arrested him on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of illegal narcotics.

Police said no shots were fired and there was no threat to the public. Shoppers and employees were not in danger at any point during the incident.
