TEXAS CITY — A man wanted for multiple felony parole violations was taken into custody Friday following a joint operation involving local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Authorities say Johonn McGowan, a documented gang member who had been wanted since July for parole violations tied to narcotics and firearms offenses, was arrested January 2 in Texas City. The arrest was carried out by Precinct 1 deputies working alongside the Texas City Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.

According to investigators, a Precinct 1 deputy spotted McGowan entering a van and coordinated a traffic stop. McGowan attempted to flee and resisted arrest before deputies used a taser to take him into custody. A loaded firearm was recovered during the arrest, officials said.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Domenique Porter, was also arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

McGowan was booked into the Galveston County Jail, where he is being held without bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
