LEAGUE CITY — The League City Police Department has received a donated ballistic vest for one of its police service dogs, officials announced.
The vest was donated by the Fazio family and Mercedes-Benz of Clear Lake and will be used by K9 Rex, who is handled by Officer Ramirez. Police said the vest was fitted during a presentation and provides protection against gunfire and knife penetration while the dog is working in the field.
During the event, Officer McIntyre explained the purpose and design of the ballistic vest and how it is intended to enhance safety for police service dogs. Representatives from the Fazio family and Mercedes-Benz of Clear Lake, including service director Daniel Reicherts, were invited to attend.
Attendees also observed a K9 demonstration conducted by K9 Donna and Officer Jones, highlighting the training and role of the department’s K9 unit.
With the addition of the donated vest, three of the League City Police Department’s four K9s are now equipped with ballistic protection, according to officials.
Police said community partnerships play an important role in supporting public safety initiatives, including equipment for specialized units such as the K9 program.
