HITCHCOCK — A man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Tuesday after attempting to flee law enforcement by land and water, according to authorities.

Deputies with the Galveston County Precinct One Constable’s Office and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, working with the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force, were searching for Larry Brandon White on January 13. White was wanted by the Sheriff’s Office on a felony charge of evading arrest or detention, officials said.

A Precinct One deputy later observed White driving a vehicle pulling a recently acquired flatbed trailer that authorities said had been altered and spray-painted in an apparent attempt to avoid identification. The trailer was carrying equipment valued at approximately $75,000, including a skid steer tractor.

When law enforcement attempted to approach White after he exited the vehicle, authorities said he attempted to evade arrest by boarding a kayak and fleeing through a nearby waterway. Deputies enlisted the assistance of two bystanders who were on a boat in the area. During the attempted arrest, White resisted multiple times before being taken into custody.

Further investigation revealed the trailer and the equipment it contained had been reported stolen from CenterPoint Energy facilities in Texas City, authorities said.

White was booked into the Galveston County Jail on his original felony evading arrest warrant, with bond set at $400,000. Additional charges are being filed by the Precinct One Constable’s Office, including felony theft with a $400,000 bond and an additional felony evading arrest charge with a $50,000 bond.
