Santa Fe Shooting Leaves One Dead; Suspect Charged with Aggravated Assault

SANTA FE – A 65-year-old man has been charged following a shooting that left another person critically injured in Santa Fe, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called to a reported shooting at approximately 5:06 p.m. on January 15 in the 4700 block of Singletary Road. Patrol deputies secured the scene while detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, including the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit, processed evidence and conducted interviews.

The victim, Robert Pentecost, was found inside his vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to UTMB Clear Lake in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

Following the investigation and consultation with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, Wade Calhoun, 65, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $100,000, and Calhoun was booked into the Galveston County Jail.

According to the court affidavit, Calhoun retrieved a .22 caliber revolver and, while pointing it toward the roof of Pentecost’s vehicle, the gun accidentally discharged, striking Pentecost in the head. Investigators later located a sword inside the front passenger seat of Pentecost’s vehicle.

The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and ongoing and asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
