Galveston Earns “Accessibility Verified” Designation for Inclusive Tourism Efforts

GALVESTON – The island has been recognized as an Accessibility Verified Destination by Wheel the World, a global organization focused on accessible travel, marking a milestone in the island’s efforts to improve accessibility for visitors of all abilities.

The designation was awarded to Visit Galveston, the island’s official destination marketing organization, following an evaluation of accessibility across local hotels, attractions and tourism-related properties. Galveston currently leads Texas and the Gulf Coast with 50 verified accessible properties and attractions.

A ceremony commemorating the achievement will be held Wednesday, January 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Moody Gardens. The event will take place in the Garden Lobby at 1 Hope Blvd. and will highlight ongoing accessibility initiatives throughout the island.

Representatives from Visit Galveston, Wheel the World and participating partner organizations are expected to attend and will be available for interviews.

Wheel the World works with destinations worldwide to assess, verify and communicate accessibility features, helping travelers make informed decisions when planning trips. The designation reflects Galveston’s continued focus on inclusive tourism and expanding access to travel experiences for all visitors.
