GALVESTON — A man is facing a felony charge after a missing 12-year-old girl was found safely following an intensive, multi-agency search, according to Galveston police.
Graham Michael Dunn has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and is being held at the Galveston County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Jail records also show he has an outstanding warrant out of Dallas County. Additional charges are possible as the investigation continues.
The case began January 30, when the juvenile went missing around 8 p.m. while walking her dog near the area of 11 Mile Road, police said.
According to Galveston Police Chief Douglas Balli, officers responded within minutes of the report and began an extensive search effort. Galveston police deployed three drones and coordinated with partner agencies, while a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted from the air.
Video first shared by local police auditor Harvey Freebird, and details later confirmed through Galveston County jail and police records, show officers were also called in the early morning hours of January 30 to the Galveston Beach Hotel in the 8700 block of Seawall Boulevard. Camera footage from the hotel confirmed the juvenile and Dunn entered a hotel room. Officers located the girl inside the room, alive, and Dunn was taken into custody at the scene.
Balli said the child was found safely due to quick coordination and determination by officers and assisting agencies. He credited the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, UTMB Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their support during the search.
In a public statement issued after the incident, Balli also addressed online comments that questioned the family’s actions, saying the child and her family “did absolutely nothing to cause this.”
“The blame belongs solely and entirely to the predator who chose to target a child,” Balli said in the statement.
He added that in a safe community, children should be able to walk a dog or play outside without fear, and emphasized that officers “refused to quit” until the child was found.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances of the alleged kidnapping as the investigation remains ongoing.
