LEAGUE CITY — Two Houston men were arrested Sunday after a reported retail theft at a League City Walgreens led to the recovery of stolen merchandise and fentanyl.
Police responded at approximately 12:11 p.m. on February 8 to a theft reported at the Walgreens at 1088 W. Main Street. Officers were informed that the suspects had fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Silverado traveling west on W. Main Street.
Using the Flock Safety system, officers tracked the vehicle and located it shortly afterward in the parking lot of another Walgreens at 4902 W. Main Street. The passenger, 46-year-old Donny McWhorter, remained in the vehicle and cooperated with officers. The driver, 43-year-old Pedro Martinez Jr., had exited the truck and was later found behind the CVS across the street.
Martinez admitted to the theft, and a probable cause search of the Silverado recovered multiple stolen items along with more than seven grams of fentanyl.
McWhorter was charged with possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1 (≥4 grams <200 grams), and his bond was set at $50,000. Martinez was arrested on an outstanding felony theft warrant from Harris County. The theft investigation is ongoing.
The League City Police Department emphasized its ongoing commitment to apprehending criminals and removing illegal drugs from the community to keep residents and visitors safe.
