CRYSTAL BEACH – Authorities shut down part of Highway 87 in Crystal Beach on Saturday night as investigators worked a deadly crash scene involving a pedestrian, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
The closure affected the area between Tinkle Drive and North Jacks, with officials urging drivers to avoid the stretch of roadway while multiple units responded. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit were all called in to determine what led up to the incident.
Deputies were dispatched around 7:43 p.m. to the 1000 block of Highway 87 after reports that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Monica Breland. Authorities say more information will be shared as the investigation continues.
