Lemonade Day Events Starting Next Week, Inspiring Children to Begin Their First Business

Staff Reports Avatar

GALVESTON — Lemonade Day Galveston County is inviting families to register young entrepreneurs for a hands-on lesson in starting their first business — complete with a glass of free lemonade.

Lemonade Day is a free, nationwide program designed to inspire youth ages 5 to 18 to start, own and operate their first business: a lemonade stand. Participants learn how to set goals, develop a business plan, create a budget, seek investors, market their product, provide customer service and give back to the community.

The first event, the Step Up for Education Expo & Lemonade Day Galveston County Kickoff, will take place Thursday, February 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Weis Middle School, 7100 Stewart Road. The event will feature student performances, music, giveaways and complimentary hot dogs provided by The Spot. Vendors and community organizations will also be on hand to share information and connect with families.

The League City Regional Chamber of Commerce will host an additional Lemonade Day Galveston County kickoff on Saturday, February 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Perry Family YMCA, 1700 League City Parkway.

The official Lemonade Day Galveston County event is scheduled for May 2.

Families are encouraged to register early to receive the full Lemonade Day curriculum. Registered participants will receive an official Lemonade Day backpack and T-shirt.
