GALVESTON – A late-night disturbance in Galveston led to an aggravated assault charge, after a woman reported being stabbed with a screwdriver, according to police.
Officers with the Galveston Police Department responded around 1:08 a.m. Monday to the 5600 block of Avenue M1/2, following a report of a person suffering an injury.
At the scene, officers spoke with the caller, who described an altercation involving a male suspect. The victim alleged she was stabbed with a screwdriver during the confrontation. Officers observed a laceration. She was treated and released at the scene.
Police then surrounded a nearby residence where the suspect was believed to be located. The department’s SWAT team was activated and took over operations. While law enforcement maintained a perimeter, the suspect approached an officer and was taken into custody without incident.
Martin Jackson, 55, of Galveston, was charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Galveston County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
