Two Charged Following Investigation into Multiple Vehicle Burglaries in La Marque

LA MARQUE – The La Marque Police Department has charged two suspects following an investigation into multiple vehicle burglaries reported over a two-day period.

Detective Skaggs, who is assigned to the Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force, led the investigation. During the case, detectives learned that Aumani Smith, 20, had been arrested by the Texas City Police Department and was found in possession of a handgun reported stolen out of La Marque.

Smith was charged by La Marque police with theft of a firearm and burglary of a vehicle.

Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division later executed a search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of Laurel, where additional stolen property was recovered.

The investigation also identified a second suspect, Malik Johnson, 17. Warrants were filed for Johnson on charges of criminal mischief of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000; theft of property of $750 or more but less than $2,500; and two counts of burglary of a vehicle.

As the investigation continued, additional charges were filed against Smith, including criminal mischief of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000; theft of property of $750 or more but less than $2,500; and burglary of a vehicle.
