SAN LEON – A woman was injured in a hit-and-run crash on February 18, 2026, prompting a Galveston County Sheriff’s Office investigation that resulted in an arrest last week.

Deputies responded around 11:10 p.m. to the 2600 block of E. Bayshore Drive after a passing motorist found the victim lying in the grass. The woman told officers she had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene. She was transported to UTMB Clear Lake, where she was treated for internal injuries.

Investigators recovered a damaged passenger-side mirror near the crash site, identifying it as part of a white 2008 Nissan Versa. Using license plate reader technology, the Major Crimes Unit traced the vehicle to its registered owner.

On February 24, detectives located the car and its owner, 59-year-old Ana Ruiz-Zarco, who admitted to driving the vehicle during the crash. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office filed a charge of Collision Involving Serious Bodily Injury. Bond was set at $25,000. Ruiz-Zarco was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Division.

The investigation remains active, and authorities continue to gather information regarding the incident.
