Kemah Couple Launch Food Blessing Box to Support Local Families

KEMAH – A new community effort is helping fight food insecurity in Kemah, one family meal at a time.

Sidni Broadus says she, along with her boyfriend Jordan Wilmore launched the city’s food blessing box late last year, after recognizing a gap in local food resources. Wanting to make a broader impact, she partnered with the City of Kemah to establish the box and provide residents with easier access to food.

While blessing boxes typically allow individuals to take or leave single items, Broadus says this one operates a little differently. Donations are used to create family meal bags, designed to provide more complete and practical support for households in need.

“We take donations and turn them into family meal bags,” Broadus explained. “But because donations can be inconsistent, it can be difficult to keep the box stocked at times.”

To help address that challenge, Broadus is hosting a community event aimed at keeping the blessing box filled. The donation drive will be held at Kemah City Hall on March 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items or make cash donations to support the effort.

Broadus says her boyfriend, Jordan Wilmore, has also been instrumental in helping organize and maintain the boxes.

Any excess donations collected beyond what the blessing box can hold will be donated to the Galveston County Food Bank to further support families across the area.

Broadus hopes the event will bring the community together and ensure the blessing box remains a reliable resource for those who need it most.
