Man arrested after allegedly smashing register during Galveston robbery

GALVESTON – Police in Galveston arrested a man Wednesday after responding to a reported robbery at a bakery along Broadway.

According to the Galveston Police Department, officers were dispatched around 12:01 p.m. on March 11 to the 5400 block of Broadway after receiving reports of a robbery in progress.

Police said a male suspect entered the business and demanded money. During the incident, the suspect grabbed the cash register and repeatedly threw it to the ground until it opened before taking the cash inside and fleeing the store.

Responding officers located the suspect hiding behind the building and took him into custody without incident.

Francisco Valdez, 43, was transported to the Galveston County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $200,000.
