LA MARQUE — A murder charge has been filed in connection with the fentanyl overdose death of a 21-year-old man found unresponsive at a La Marque motel last year, according to the La Marque Police Department.

Police said officers responded Aug. 2, 2025, to the Super 8 Motel, located at 312 Delaney Road, after receiving a report of an unresponsive individual. Upon arrival, officers found 21-year-old Chase Boone inside a motel room.

According to police, officers and emergency medical personnel immediately initiated life-saving measures. Despite those efforts, Boone was later pronounced deceased.

Detective Kelemen began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Boone’s death. During the investigation, the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Boone died as a result of a fentanyl overdose.

Police said extensive investigative efforts led detectives to identify Brooklyn Pace as a person of interest in the case. The investigation was later presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, which determined there was sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges.

According to investigators, Pace was responsible for selling the lethal dose of fentanyl that caused Boone’s death. As a result, Pace was charged with murder, and bond was set at $200,000.

On May 21, 2026, La Marque police, with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force, located and arrested Pace without incident.
