End of an Active Pattern:
After an active stretch of rain and thunderstorms throughout the region, Galveston County is finally getting a break this upcoming week. Rain chances have largely come to an end for now, with a much hotter and drier pattern in store for the work week.
An upper-level ridge of high pressure is developing over the area and will bring sunshine and rising temperatures. Inland daytime highs will gradually increase from the lower 90s to possibly the mid 90s by midweek, with it being a few degrees cooler near the coast. Heat Index values will reach triple digits most days and peak around 105-107°F, so keep an eye out for any Heat Advisories that may be posted.
In a Heat Advisory always remember:
- Limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon.
- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.
- Take frequent breaks in air-conditioned areas.
- Never leave children or pets inside vehicles.
Rain Chances Are Low
The developing ridge will also put a halt to the deep tropical moisture that fueled last week’s heavy rain and thunderstorms. As a result, rain chances remain very low through at least midweek, with mostly sunny skies expected across the county.
Rip Current Risk Continues
A high risk of strong rip currents is expected to continue through the next several days.
Beachgoers should:
- Swim near lifeguards whenever possible.
- Stay out of the water if red flags are flying.
- Never attempt to swim against a rip current. Instead, swim parallel to the shoreline and then back to the beach.
Overall, it will be a beautiful week full of sunshine, so go out and enjoy it!
