ALVIN — A vehicle fire spread to a nearby building Tuesday afternoon, prompting firefighters to upgrade the incident to a working structure fire, according to the Alvin Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 400 block of Adoue Street on June 30 for a reported vehicle fire. While crews were responding, the call was upgraded after officials learned the burning vehicle was parked close to a structure.
Engine 11, Engine 12, Engine 21, and Engine 31 responded to the scene, where incident command was established and firefighters worked to extinguish the vehicle fire while preventing it from spreading further into the building.
According to the fire department, the structure sustained damage, but crews were able to stop the fire before it caused more extensive damage.
No injuries were reported.
The Alvin Police Department assisted by securing the area to provide firefighters with access to the scene.
Scott Salter, public information officer for the Alvin Volunteer Fire Department, confirmed the incident with KGTX 7.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Alvin Fire Marshal’s Office.
