The Heat Is Relentless

There is no relief from the heat in sight for Southeast Texas this week. Dangerously hot conditions will continue throughout the period with widespread heat index values of 105-107°F occurring daily. Locally higher values exceeding 108°F are also possible. Once again it will be important to watch for any heat advisories that may be issued by the National Weather Service. Always remember to stay hydrated, avoid extended outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning whenever possible, and check on your neighbors.

Storm Chances This Week

There is a slight (10-20%) chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm Monday and Tuesday as more moisture moves into the region. Wednesday and Thursday look very clear from any rain or thunderstorms, however, more slight chances return for the end of the week heading into the weekend with 20% chances of precipitation Friday thru Sunday.

Tropics Update

It is still quiet in the Atlantic, as tropical cyclone activity is not expected within the next 7 days. Looking another week ahead, both the GFS and ECMWF models are not showing any significant development, which is good news heading deeper into July. That being said, peak Atlantic hurricane season is still ahead of us (August and September are historically the most active for the Atlantic and Gulf Coast).
