LA MARQUE — A 52-year-old man is hospitalized and facing multiple charges after La Marque police say he fled an attempted traffic stop and crashed during a pursuit early Sunday morning.

La Marque police attempted to stop the driver in the 900 block of FM 1765 around 12:15 a.m., according to Cpl. Nicole Galindo.

Police said the man failed to stop and instead led officers on a pursuit that ended when he crashed near FM 1765 West and Gulf Freeway.

The driver was injured in the crash and transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake, where he remained Sunday morning, Galindo said. Police did not immediately provide details about the extent of his injuries.

The man is expected to face charges of evading in a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1 and driving while intoxicated — third offense, according to police.

Authorities identified the driver only as a 52-year-old man in the initial statement.

The incident remains under investigation, and additional information about what prompted the initial traffic stop was not immediately available.
