CLEAR LAKE SHORES – A Sugar Land man was arrested after an investigation into the theft of a boat from a Galveston County marine business led authorities to recover an estimated $300,000 in stolen property, officials said.

The Gulf Coast Auto Crimes Task Force began assisting Clear Lake Shores police in July after a 2022 Cape Horn 31 Tournament boat was reported stolen from True North Marine, according to the task force.

Investigators used surveillance footage, Flock license plate reader technology and other investigative work to identify a suspect vehicle and link it to multiple alleged boat and trailer thefts, authorities said.

Detectives executed a search warrant Aug. 24 and recovered two stolen boats, three stolen boat trailers and a stolen side-by-side vehicle. The task force said investigators also found license plates, GPS devices and boat titles that did not belong to the suspect.

Lucas Rodriguez, 20, of Sugar Land, was arrested this week, with assistance from the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office and Galveston County Fugitive Apprehension Division.

Rodriguez was charged with theft of property valued at $150,000 or more but less than $300,000. Bond was set at $100,000.
