TEXAS CITY — Off-price retailer Burlington Stores Inc. is expanding its footprint in Galveston County, with a new store set to open in Texas City this fall, the City of Texas City confirmed last Friday.
The New Jersey-based retailer, known for offering discounted brand-name clothing and home goods, will take up residence at 3403 Palmer Highway, next to Harbor Freight Tools. City officials noted that a contractor working with Burlington pulled a building permit for the site back in March and has since begun remodeling the space.
The upcoming store will mark Burlington’s second in the region in as many years, following the debut of its Galveston location at 2711 61st Street last October.
Burlington’s merchandise spans a wide range of categories, including women’s fashion and accessories, menswear (including big and tall sizes), children’s clothing, footwear, baby products, pet supplies, toys, and home décor.
The Texas City location is expected to reflect the retailer’s recent strategy of opening smaller, more efficient stores designed to deliver a “treasure-hunt” shopping experience — a model that continues to gain popularity among bargain hunters.
According to company projections released earlier this year, Burlington plans to open 400 additional stores over the next four years, with a goal of eventually reaching 2,000 locations nationwide. The expansion signals the retailer’s ambition to compete head-to-head with other discount giants like Ross Dress for Less and TJ Maxx.
An official opening date for the Texas City store has yet to be announced.
